Indie Pattern Update!

My post raving about independent sewing pattern companies is one of the most popular on the blog and I've found myself constantly updating the list of pattern companies on there. So I though it might be worthwhile me turning this post into a more easily accessible page. I know, I know, as if you all needed the list of temptation to be easier to find! Well now you can find it by selecting the Indie Pattern Designers tab under the blog header.

I've done a good bit of looking around to make sure this list is as up to date as possible but I'm sure I've missed/not heard of some. So if a company you love is missing then let me know in the comments and I'll add it on!

I've also been considering starting a new series of posts in which, once a month, I round up what's been happening in the Indie Pattern Company world. Letting you know about new companies on the block, new pattern releases, upcoming sew-alongs and some of my favourite indie pattern makes spotted on the internet in the last few weeks. I'm really excited about what all our favourite designers might have lined up for us this year! Is this a feature you might be interested in?

You might also notice I've given the blog a little bit of a makeover, I'd got a bit bored of the old look and figured it was about time I jazzed things up around here! I'm still adjusting things but I hope you like it so far. I've also created a Facebook page for my blog, how exciting! You can access it using the social media icons in the side bar.

  1. Great list! You could cross check with the list that A Good Wardrobe made awhile back just to see how things have changed since it was last updated. http://agoodwardrobe.com/2011/12/22/independent-pattern-designers/ Also, I like the idea of a monthly post!

  3. A very comprehensive list indeed! Now off to drool over yet more patterns......(intervention may be required...)

  4. I've gone back to your old post so many times - its been really helpful as someone new to this (and i think this might have been how I found your blog first time). Constantly finding new ones too. The categories are helpful (recently made my own list of mens' pattern designers to watch). I have recently learnt some pattern makers are geared towards certain shapes or sizes and wondered if these might be worth showing/tagging/categorising somehow (e.g. sewaholic = pear shape, was it gertie or collette that are more for rounded women and better for big busts, therefore not me)! Loving that you're focusing on this and your new design.

    1. O glad that the original post has been so useful! As I was putting this one together I was thinking about ways to describe what particular brands are good at what and tried a bit but it became a bit overly complicated as there are so many cross overs! I'll definitely revisit it and try to add some more info in in a way that's easy to read. If you find any new one's I've missed do let me know!

  7. I wrote a Independent Pattern Blog Post Wish List (as I hadn't time for sewing last year) and just LOVED searching for different patterns... I've made Anna By Hand London now with great success, so any news or more info on Independent Patterns would be welcomed!

    1. That is an excellent way to get the satisfaction of sewing without sewing! I sure had a lot of fun getting all the information together for this...my Pinterest 'sewing pattern' board is certainly looking very healthy anyway! I'm off to check out your Anna now, I love that pattern!

  9. Thanks for the list, a great idea. Although it might end up causing me to break my one new pattern a month new year resolution!

    1. That's a great idea for a resolution! Not sure I could keep to that though! Sorry about the temptation!

  10. Great idea Fiona! And a monthly post would be great, although possibly very dangerous - I already come across way more indie patterns that I want to sew than I could ever possibly have time for!

  11. Such a great list of designers. So many I had never heard of! Lately I have been checking out Japanese based Indie designers and one of them now has a few English patterns. Oh, and some free ones too! Tamanegi Kobo - http://tmngkobo.onlinestores.jp/language/en
