Share Your Makes with #indiesewing!

Just a quick post today to share an idea with you. One of my favourite parts of putting together the Indie Pattern Update post each month is looking through what you guys have been making and drawing inspiration from your creativity and crazy sewing skills! I hope you guys find the garments I share at the end of these posts as inspiring as I do.

I often think when I'm putting together this post that I must only see such a tiny proportion of all the fantastic garments sewn with patterns from independent designers and wish that there was an easier way to see more. I try to keep my eye on as many blogs as humanly possible but my blog roll is pretty jam packed each time I open Bloglovin' and it must be the same for many of you.

I've also developed a bit of an addiction to Instagram over the past few months, both for sharing bits and pieces of the sewing process which I don't think are deserving of a full blog post as well as a quick visual way of keeping up to date with what everyone else is up to. I really enjoy searching sewing related hashtags and finding new people to follow. It was whilst browsing one day that I thought wouldn't it be great to have a hashtag for garments the sewing blog community makes using indie sewing patterns?! That way both you and I can search for the hashtag whenever we feel the need for a bit of inspiration and by posting our makes with this hashtag we create a huge pool of indie related makes to browse and enjoy.

I'm going to keep it nice and simple and suggest we use #indiesewing, both on Twitter and Instagram. I can't wait to find some new to me blogs!

What are you sewing at the moment?

  1. A great idea! I love the idea of a "central" hashtag for all the indie goodness :) I"ve just finished some Thread Theory Jedediah pants... and I've got to say it's probably my best make ever! So satisfying!

    1. O that's good to hear Rebecca, I've long been tempted to make them for my fella but wanted to see some more reviews before I took the plunge and bought the pattern...plus sewing pretty things for myself got in the way too!

  2. I've recently developed an Instagram addiction too!

I've just finished a Papercut Patterns Clover dress (which I need to blog about) and am in the process of making a couple of tops from a lengthened version of the BHL Anna dress bodice.

  3. Great idea Fiona! I don't blog but do like to post my makes on Instagram and use it to see what everyone else is making (i'm pretty addicted to it too!) so using the #indiesewing will be a great way of keeping track of everyones interpretations of all the lovely indie sewing patterns that are out there!

  5. Awesome idea. I need to improve my hashtag using skills and I'm going to start using this one for sure when I'm posting my makes in IG or Twitter. Thanks for the suggestion :)

    1. The idea partly stemmed from the fact that I'm not all that great at using has tags either! So it's good to know I'm not alone! I'll look forward to seeing your projects on there!

    1. Sounds lovely! I've been seeing a lot of love for Deer and Doe at the moment although I've never actually tried a pattern from them. I too really like the look of the Belladone but also the Pavot jacket/coat

  7. Great idea! I've just used the hashtag for my latest project on Twitter. I'm in between projects at the moment, waiting for material for a Coco to arrive and planning more autumn sewing!
